Schrade SCHF37M High Carbon Fixed Blade Micarta
The Schrade Fixed Blade SCHF37 is a solid survival knife, for a good price. The well-known and popular 1095 carbon steel was used for the blade. We know this type of steel from many major knife brands. The fact that Schrade can offer a comparable knife at such an attractive price is simply impressive. Especially when you look at the fact that it comes with a sharpening stone and firesteel. A complete survival knife, for a very good price.
1095 carbon steel is so popular because it can withstand quite a lot. This knife, however, can handle even more because Schrade added a 6.0 mm thick blade to the knife. It makes the knife virtually unbreakable. The solidity of 1095 is not the only positive feature. The ease of sharpening is also a plus. This allows you to easily re-energize the cut in the field with the included sharpening stone. You do, however, always have to be on the lookout for rust. This is why Schrade added a matte black coating to the blade. This means that you only have to pay attention to the edge and any wear and tear in the coating. Great when you are out in the field. The handle is made from grey and black micarta. Strong, offers enough grip and is comfortable to hold. Very nice for a knife handle.
The Schrade SCHF37 comes in a luxury nylon sheath. In the front compartment you will find the diamond sharpening stone (unknown grain size, approx. 'medium') and a firesteel. Schrade thought about this for a moment: the firesteel is enhanced with a scraper. The coating, after all, ensures that you cannot scrape that well. Excellent solution. The sheath is enhanced with a belt loop that can accommodate straps of up to 5.5 cm.
